Death Row
Book Club
TRIGGER WARNING
If Death Row Book Club were a limited series, it would be rated R.
It contains scenes of extreme violence, torture, murder, and rape. There are scenes of drug distribution and use by men, women, and children. The characters use profanity. There are scenes with strong sexual content. It has strong social and political commentary. There are scenes of systematic systemic racial violence and oppression.
If any of these things cause you to have a strong psychological or emotional response for which you are either unprepared or are unwilling to experience, you should stop reading now.
THE TRAILER
When his wife leaves him, Jeremy (a pop-psychologist) starts a study to discover why people violate rules and laws. This study leads him to interviewing people in prison where he meets three women on death row.
Rosa Jones: she’s incredibly intelligent, well-read, and is on death row for murdering seven teenage boys. Harriet Wilson: like Rosa, Harriet’s incredibly well-read, intelligent. And she’s on death row for murdering eight LAPD officers and four members of the L.A. City Council. Simone Ramirez: at 29 years old, she murdered and entire family—over fifty men, women, and children. Genocide. Collectively, they are known as the Furies. They have spent the last fifteen years in solitary confinement.
And no one has ever asked why they did it.
Until Jeremy's study.
Their answers force him to question everything he thinks he knows about himself and the world in which he lives.
